Fabien Coche is a fourth-generation winemaker who succeeded his father Alain in 2005. From the vintage '20, the domain's name changed from Coche-Bizouard to Fabien Coche. The Coche family is very well known in Burgundy: Raphaël Coche-Dury is a cousin and the two domains were one until they were split in 1949.

Charmes-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's lesser-known grand cru sites. It is planted with pinot noir and produces some of the softer red wines of the Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru vineyards. Due to subtle topographical changes along the slopes, much of Charmes-Chambertin lies a few points north to east, meaning the vines are not as fully exposed to the morning sun. This contributes to the fresher, lighter style of the wines, which are best drunk earlier than those of their neighbours.
