Productinformation
La Pièce Sous le Bois is a Premier Cru vineyard on the southern side of the Côte de Beaune. It is the highest 1er cru vineyard in Meursault(350m). As the name suggests, the northern upper edge is bordered by forest. It overlooks the Meursault vineyards Perrières and Charmes that lie beyond.
It lies on the upper slopes of the Côte d'Or wall and is perfectly southeast facing. It thus benefits from the ripening potential of the morning and early afternoon sun during the growing season. The vineyard is also one of seven vineyards in the area whose red wines may be classified as Blagny Premier Cru.
The soil is light and stony, consisting of the same limestone as in the famous climates below. The vineyard benefits from a very thin topsoil, giving the vine roots good contact with the hard limestone rock. The steep vineyard drains freely and easily, meaning the vines have some water stress.
White wines from the vineyards in Blagny are distinguishable from other examples of Meursault wines. They are generally slightly lighter with spicy, floral characters and herbs. Many have suggested that Meursault wines from Blagny fill the gap between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, both stylistically and geographically.
