No one can ignore the Coche name in Meursault. It all started with Léon Coche who in 1920, purchased 6 parcels of land in Meursault, Auxey-Duresses and Monthélie. After his death, the plots were divided among his three children, this was the basis for three wineries: Fabien Coche (until 2013 Domaine Alain Coche-Bizouard), Coche-Dury (belonged to Coche-Bizouard until 1949) and Domaine Roulot.
Domaine Fabien Coche is located in the heart of Meursault and owns 12ha of vineyards spread across Meursault, Pommard, Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie, Saint-Romain, Saint-Aubin and Puligny-Montrachet.
Fabien Coche currently the fourth generation winemaker, joined the company in 1998 and took over the reins from his father in 2005. Classical production methods are used all with the goal of achieving ultimate quality while respecting nature. Harvesting is done by hand with low yields, also the harvest is prolonged to reach the optimal maturity per parcel. Whole cluster pressing is used for white wines and partial for reds. The wines receive long aging on lees (12/18) months and low percentage of new wood (max. 25%), to accentuate freshness and finesse.
Preserving the nature of the terroir is very important which is why all 40 parcels have been farmed organically since 1998 (application for certification underway).
The wines of Fabien Coche are incredibly pure a pure with beautiful acidity and purity. More than 60% of the vines are over 60 years old and this provides real depth, without embellishment or stylistic tricks. The low percentage of new oak, use of large barrels and old vines make Fabien Coche's wines the purest expression of each vineyard. As a result, Fabien Coche's wines are favorites of many sommeliers.
