Productinformation
Les Chaumes is one of the most highly regarded Village lieux-dits of Chassagne-Montrachet. Although it does not hold Premier Cru status, the vineyard lies directly alongside renowned Premier Cru sites such as Morgeot, La Boudriotte and Les Petits Clos. Sharing the same slope, exposure and similar soils, Les Chaumes consistently produces wines that rival the quality of many Premier Crus.
The vineyard is planted on a combination of limestone, marl and pockets of sandy soils, providing excellent drainage and a perfect balance between richness, freshness and minerality. The wines combine ripe fruit with vibrant tension and a refined structure, while always retaining their elegance.
The nose reveals aromas of white flowers, citrus, ripe pear and white peach, complemented by delicate notes of fresh almonds. With a few years of bottle age, the wine develops refined nuances of honey and toasted hazelnuts, while a subtle saline minerality adds length and complexity.
Compared with Puligny-Montrachet, the wines of Les Chaumes are slightly richer and creamier, yet they display greater tension and precision than many other Chassagne-Montrachet Village wines. The result is a Chardonnay that effortlessly combines power and elegance, making it one of the finest expressions of the Village appellation.
