Productinformation
The name Monts Luisants means “Shining Slopes” – a reference to the bright golden-green leaves of Aligoté and Chardonnay that cover the vineyard in autumn, in sharp contrast to the vivid red foliage of Pinot Noir.
The vineyard covers 5.4 hectares and is located in the far northwestern corner of Morey-Saint-Denis, on the slopes directly above the prestigious Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. It is a highly diverse vineyard, producing both white and red wines, with an equally varied classification.
The highest section, just below the forest edge, is classified at village level. Below this lies the Premier Cru section, while the lowest part is classified as Grand Cru and falls under the Clos de la Roche appellation.
The vineyard benefits from a sunny eastern exposure, while its higher altitude ensures cooler temperatures. The soils consist of a thin topsoil over limestone, providing excellent drainage and forcing the vines to work hard to access moisture. As a result, the vines produce small, highly concentrated berries with a favourable skin-to-juice ratio, leading to complex and expressive wines.
