Productinformation
This wine originates from the historic Clos Saint-Denis in Morey-Saint-Denis, a prestigious Grand Cru climat with just 0.35 hectares under vine. Planted exclusively with 100% Pinot Noir, the vineyard includes vines dating from 1967 and 1995 and is situated in the mid-slope section of the Côte, between 280 and 320 metres above sea level. The soils consist of brown, chalky limestone, free of gravel, with a notable phosphorus content reminiscent of Chambertin, combined with a clay influence similar to Musigny. This exceptional soil composition explains the unique balance of power and finesse found in this wine.
Vineyard management follows integrated pest management practices combined with non-certified biodynamic cultivation. After careful green harvesting, the grapes are hand-picked. Winemaking begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, using either destemmed grapes or whole clusters, depending on the character of the vintage. The total vatting period lasts approximately fifteen days.
The wine is then matured for 14 to 16 months in oak barrels, with 40 to 50% new oak, adding depth and structure while preserving its delicate expression. In the glass, Clos Saint-Denis stands out for its remarkable depth and extraordinary delicacy. Intense and rich, with silky tannins, it develops a complex aromatic palette of small red fruits, notably wild strawberries, enhanced by a subtle saline note. It is no coincidence that this wine is often referred to as “the Mozart of the Côte de Nuits.”
