Productinformation
The Les Rougeots parcel is located in the northern part of Meursault, close to the border with Volnay. The vineyard lies on the upper middle section of the slope at around 300–330 metres above sea level, clearly higher than the classic village vineyards. Here, the slope is steeper and the soils are thinner.
The name refers to an old disease known as “rougeot parasitaire” (black rot), which caused vine leaves to turn red (rouge). Even today, the leaves here still tend to take on a reddish colour.
Thanks to its higher altitude and more open exposure, the site is cooler and windier than lower-lying climats. The predominantly east to south-east orientation encourages slow, even ripening while preserving freshness.
The soils consist mainly of light clay-limestone with a high proportion of limestone fragments, shallower and stonier than those further down the slope. This terroir gives the wine structure, tension and a pronounced mineral character, rather than sheer volume.
Stylistically, Les Rougeots produces a Meursault that is tighter and more vertical than the classic, richer village style. Aromas of citrus, white flowers and wet stone are supported by a straight acidity and refined length. The wines show more precision than opulence and can sometimes approach Premier Cru finesse, while clearly retaining their village character.
