Productinformation
The Saint-Joseph Rouge "Lléandre" is a pure expression of 100% Syrah, sourced from a selection of vineyard parcels on the granite-rich slopes surrounding Chavanay, in the northern part of the Saint-Joseph appellation. All grapes are harvested by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe fruit is selected.
After harvest, the grapes are fully destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Gentle extraction is achieved through pump-overs (remontage) and punch-downs (pigeage), allowing colour, aromas and tannins to develop with precision and finesse. Fermentation takes place at around 30°C, followed by a total maceration period of approximately three weeks.
The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months, using a combination of vessels to preserve both fruit purity and complexity: 15% in stainless steel tanks, 35% in French oak barriques (228 L) between one and five years old, and 50% in 600 L demi-muids. This carefully balanced ageing results in a Saint-Joseph with ripe dark fruit, subtle spice, refined tannins and the distinctive mineral freshness that characterises the granite terroirs of Chavanay.
