Domaine Didier Morion has been run by Didier Morion since 1993, when he took over the family estate from his father. While the estate had traditionally cultivated both vineyards and fruit trees, with all production sold to the local négociant, Didier recognised the exceptional potential of the steep granite slopes of Chavanay in the Northern Rhône and decided to vinify and bottle his own wines.
Today, the estate is entirely dedicated to viticulture. Its approximately 11 hectares of vineyards are planted on the characteristic steep terraced hillsides (chaillets) surrounding Chavanay and are managed by Didier together with two full-time employees. Due to the extreme gradients, almost all vineyard work is carried out by hand, with only the upper plots accessible by machine.
The diversity of the estate's vineyard sites and soils is one of the key reasons behind the outstanding value and distinctive character of its wines. On the granite-rich slopes, Didier grows Marsanne and Roussanne for his Saint-Joseph Blanc, while Viognier forms the basis of both his IGP wines and the prestigious Condrieu AOP. The same steep slopes are also home to Syrah, the iconic red grape of the Northern Rhône, used to produce expressive Saint-Joseph AOP and IGP wines.
All grapes are harvested, vinified, aged and bottled at the estate. Didier Morion's philosophy is simple: to craft wines without artifice, allowing terroir and precision to speak for themselves. The result is a range of pure, elegant and expressive wines that authentically reflect the character of Saint-Joseph and Condrieu.
