The Côte-Rôtie "Côte Bodin" is the flagship cuvée of Domaine Famille Gallet and a remarkable expression of 100% Syrah. The wine originates from two parcels within the lieu-dit Côte Bodin, the oldest planted in 1955 and the youngest in 1996. The vineyards are situated on extremely steep, south- and southwest-facing slopes and are cultivated using the traditional échalas system, in which each vine is supported by an individual wooden stake. The soils consist of mica schist rich in iron oxides, giving the wine its characteristic power, minerality and the unmistakable Côte Brune character. All grapes are harvested by hand.
After harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks, with 30% whole clusters included to enhance complexity, structure and spicy character. Prior to fermentation, the must undergoes a 24-hour cold maceration, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28–30°C. Gentle pump-overs (remontage) are carried out twice daily to achieve a precise extraction of colour, aromas and fine tannins.
The wine is then aged for 24 months in 228-litre Saury French oak barriques that are two to three years old. This restrained oak ageing enhances the wine's structure and complexity while allowing the distinctive terroir to remain at the forefront.
Côte Bodin is a powerful, full-bodied and structured Côte-Rôtie with exceptionally fine tannins. The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruit, sweet spices and a distinctive note of graphite, a hallmark of the iron-rich mica schist soils from this exceptional site. On the palate, the wine combines remarkable power with outstanding elegance, supported by impressive length and exceptional aromatic persistence. Thanks to its concentration, balance and refined structure, Côte Bodin has outstanding ageing potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over the coming decades.
